Senior Portfolio Manager – Alternatives

Are you ready to help shape the future of alternatives investing?

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced investor to take a senior role building and managing a sophisticated alternatives investment platform. Working closely with the Head of Alternatives & Hedging Solutions, you’ll play a key role in developing innovative investment solutions designed to meet the evolving needs of long-term institutional investors and the UK’s “Fit for the Future” agenda.

You’ll lead the design and oversight of diversified alternatives portfolios spanning strategies such as hedge funds, diversified growth, absolute return bonds, insurance-linked securities, gold and other diversifying assets. Acting within a manager-of-managers model, you will drive strategy research, manager selection and portfolio oversight while embedding rigorous governance, risk management and responsible investment principles.

This is a high-impact role with real visibility, giving you the opportunity to influence strategy, present to investment committees, represent the organisation externally, and help build a world-class alternatives capability.

What you’ll do

  • Build and manage diversified multi-manager alternatives portfolios.

  • Lead strategy research, manager sourcing, due diligence and ongoing monitoring.

  • Help design and implement innovative alternatives investment solutions aligned with partner fund and government objectives.

  • Present investment opportunities and portfolio insights to committees and senior stakeholders.

  • Ensure robust governance, risk management and compliance across the portfolio.

  • Embed responsible investment and ESG considerations into investment decision-making.

  • Act as a senior ambassador within the investment community and with key stakeholders.

  • Support the development of a high-performing investment team and mentor junior colleagues.

What you’ll bring

  • Strong experience researching, selecting and monitoring alternatives strategies.

  • Proven ability to construct and oversee diversified portfolios and evaluate performance and risk.

  • Experience contributing to collaborative investment decision-making at a senior level.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

  • High levels of professional integrity, judgement and credibility.

Qualifications

  • CFA or equivalent professional qualification (or relevant investment experience).

  • Degree level education or equivalent preferred.
