Head of Payments Technology, Global Bank

This is a rare opportunity to own and shape global payments technology at enterprise scale.

We’re looking for a transformational technology leader to take charge of a mission-critical, 24/7 global payments platform supporting wholesale banking and capital markets operations worldwide. This is a true executive role with strategic ownership, deep technical influence, and board-level visibility.

You’ll define the vision, architecture, and operating model for next-generation payments infrastructure — spanning SWIFT, global messaging, AML integration, real-time payments, APIs, and regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions. Leading a high-calibre, globally distributed team, you’ll drive innovation while ensuring resilience, security, and operational excellence.

What you’ll do

Own the global strategy and roadmap for payments technology across wholesale banking
Set architectural standards for SWIFT (MT/MX), gateways, messaging platforms, and payment infrastructure
Lead large-scale transformation programmes that modernise payments, improve resiliency, and unlock new capabilities
Partner with senior stakeholders across Markets, Operations, Cash Management, Compliance, and Risk
Embed best-in-class governance, AML, sanctions screening, and regulatory controls across all payment flows
Build, inspire, and scale a world-class global engineering and product organisation
Manage senior vendor and partner relationships, including SWIFT and correspondent banks
Drive adoption of real-time payments, API connectivity, and emerging payment technologies
Take full ownership of budgets, investment cases, and delivery outcomes

What we’re looking for

Senior executive experience leading payments technology in wholesale or investment banking
Deep hands-on expertise in SWIFT infrastructure, global payments platforms, and financial messaging
A proven track record delivering complex, multi-year global transformations
Strong commercial and financial acumen with experience owning large technology budgets
The gravitas to influence executives, regulators, and external partners
Experience leading large, geographically dispersed teams through change
A strategic mindset paired with the ability to go deep technically when required
