Interim Legal Counsel (12 month FTC), UK Asset Management Firm

London, hybrid/flexible working

This is an exciting opportunity to join a Legal team in a leading asset management company with a strong reputation internally and externally as a high performing, multi-disciplinary, diverse team contributing meaningfully to key strategic priorities. The role will provide general advice on legal issues across the business including funds, general contractual undertakings and legal/regulatory matters. This is a 12 month maternity cover fixed term contract.

Key Responsibilities
Working closely with other members of the team, Risk & Compliance and other departments, you will work on matters relating to

  • the group’s mutual fund franchise
  • contractual arrangements relating to service providers
  • general legal/regulatory matters
  • support on US business and private fund range.
  • contract reviews within the contract approval procedure and providing legal advice to best satisfy business requirements.
  • obtaining advice from external advisers as appropriate and liaising with internal departments
  • advising on and assisting the business to comply with regulatory requirements
  • ad hoc legal support
  • assisting other members of the Legal Department in maintaining and growing its knowhow and precedent base

Skills / Experience

Essential:

  • Financial services experience (ideally within the asset management team of a leading City or local (where non-UK) law firm).
    Strong working knowledge of UCITS, AIFMD and MiFID.
  • Practical, first-hand experience of working in and across international markets
  • Excellent drafting, communication (written and verbal) and negotiating skills
  • Proven ability to manage relationships with internal partners and external providers.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Proven ability to prioritise workload and to work to deadlines.
  • Strong team player who seeks and gives empowerment.
  • Flexible, positive and approachable with a pragmatic approach
  • Strong computer and technical skills and know-how.

 

Desirable:

  • Experience of working in an in-house environment, whether on secondment or otherwise
  • Experience and some knowledge of the FCA Handbook
  • A general understanding of the US regulatory environment as relevant to investment funds
    and asset managers

 

Qualifications

  • Qualified Solicitor with 3+ years PQE (having qualified within a leading City or local (when non-UK) law firm)
  • This role is subject to the Conduct Rules set by the FCA.
